JUDGING CRITERIA

1st SCREENING

Preliminary screening for each category: Aquatic and Emersed will be done by EAEC.

A total of 100 works will be selected for each Category: Aquatic and Emersed.

 

2nd SCREENING

General judges independently rate the top 100 entries on a scale of 1 to 100.


The 1st ranking receives the highest score of 100 points, and the following ranking layouts receive points in increments of -1.

 

Results:

  1. The top 27 entries with the highest score of the general judge’s selection move on to the 3rd Judging.

  2. The 3 best candidates in each specialized category: Style and Size, with the highest score as a result of the selection of the general judges, move to the third evaluation.

  3. CERTIFICATE WORKS are awarded to participants who have placed in between positions 28 to 100.

 

3rd JUDGING
Each judge, general and specialized, conducts the Judging Criteria described below. While general judges will judge each criterion, specialist judges will only judge his expertise field by x2 points.

The final score will be the total sum of all judge’s criterion points.

The maximum score possible is 1.000 points.

 

General Judges:

A total maximum score of 600 points

6 judges evaluating all criterion with a maximum score of 100 points per judge.

 

Specialized Judges:

A total maximum score of 400 points

3 specialized judges will evaluate the Re-engaging with Nature:

3 judges x 50 points x 2 = 300 points

1 specialized judge will evaluate the Hardscape:

1 judge x 15 points x 2 = 30 points

1 specialized judge will evaluate the Softscape:

1 judge x 15 points x 2 = 30 points

1 specialized judge will evaluate the Fauna:

1 judge x 5 points x 2 = 10 points

1 judge will evaluate the Photography:

1 x 15 points x 2 = 30 points

CRITERION

 

REENGAGING WITH NATURE (50 points)

This contest aims to challenge participants to create pristine nature art sceneries that reconnect and re-engage people with nature.

Judges will evaluate in this classification:

  • Emotional connection

  • Theme and Storytelling

  • Impression, creativity, and originality

  • Magic depth: Perspective, layers, contrasts, focal point…

  • Naturality: Beauty, integration, wabi-sabi and details perfection

 

Participants who obtain the first 3 positions in their Style and/or Size category will be awarded in the STYLE AWARDS and/or SIZE AWARDS.

 

HARDSCAPE (10 points + 5 points)

Hardscape is the none living structural elements used to create the composition: woods, rocks, gravels, sands…

Judges will evaluate in this classification:

  • Hardscape selection and quality

  • Colours, textures, shapes, volumes…

  • Modelling outcome

  • Sculptural approach

  • Use of space: positive and negative

 

Participants are encouraged to upload the hardscape photo finish before the planting and water filling to opt for an additional 5 points evaluation.

Participants that get the top 3 highest ranking on this category will be awarded by the HARDSCAPE AWARDS on each category: Aquatic and Emersed.

 

SOFTSCAPE (15 points)

Softscape refers to the living flora of a scape: plants, mosses, ferns, trees… Softscape requires skilful maintenance.

Judges will evaluate in this classification:

  • Flora species selection.

  • Flora composition, integration and location.

  • Flora impression and mood: Colors, textures, shapes, volumes…

  • Flora health and algae-free.

  • Maintenance

 

Participants that get the top 3 highest ranking on this category will be awarded by the SOFTSCAPE AWARDS on each category: Aquatic and Emersed.

FAUNA (5 points)

Fauna refers to the living dwellers of the scape as fishes, shrimps, snails, amphibians, reptiles…

Judges will evaluate in this classification:

  • Fauna species selection, suitability, and ecology in the scape.

  • Fauna mix: compatibility, behaviour, visibility, movement, correctness…

  • Fauna impression and mood: Colors, textures, shapes, volumes, …

  • Fauna health

  • Fauna maintenance and viability

PHOTOGRAPHY (10 points + 5 points)

Photography refers to the evaluation of photography.

Participants, to get the higher score possible with an additional of 5 points, are encouraged to upload:

  • The enhanced contest photo (up to 10 points)

  • The original photo untouched (RAW and EDIF original) (+2 points)

  • 30 seconds video from the front view (+2 points)

  • Up to 5 additional photos (close-up details, side views, top view, perspective…) (+1 point).

 

Judges will evaluate in this classification:

  • Photo impression and quality

  • Contrast, lights, and shadows

  • Dynamic feeling

  • Photo enhancement:  impression improvements by classic photography correction: clarity, sharpness, brightness, colours… compare to the original untouched RAW image.

 

Participants are allowed to do basic photo enhancement only by classic photography correction:

  1. Basic adjustments: colour, brightness, shadow/highlight, contrast, sharpness…

  2. Lens correction is allowed to avoid distortion on the edges.

  3. Pile photography is only allowed for animals correct positioning.

 

Photo retouching in terms of adding, removing, cloning, modification, deformation…is fully banned and may result in a penalty of 0 points in this category from all judges.
